    Freiburg Town Hall – World’s first public net-surplus-energy building

    In 2017, the city of Freiburg saw the completion of a new ecologically sustainable home for the previously dispersed city administration. The world’s first net-surplus-energy energy building is more than just an administration hub. The new ensemble is integrated in the green space between Eschholz Park and the University Hospital with his main entrance vis-à-vis the existing building. The newly created the square opens up of at Fehrenbachallee thus creating an additional attractive public space.

By using innovative technologies to close the loops of energy, water and resources, the carbon footprint is drastically decreased. Residents were engaged early on to participate in DuCoop, creating transparency, ownership & social equity in the neighbourhood.

This resulted in 70 percent less climate impact than a comparable project. Even though the design is based on the goal of achieving the lowest possible climate impact, the architectural height of the work has not given way.

    Blade Made is a circular economy strategy by Superuse, where the waste of the wind energy sector is transformed into public furniture like seating, playgrounds or bus shelters. This specific example shows the first Blade Made project by Superuse, a playground in Rotterdam. By reusing the carbon emissions are reduced up to 90% compared to a standard playground. The striking aesthetic of Blade Made playgrounds stimulates the imagination of children and facilitates social interaction.
