Project title
Empty Material
Full concept/idea title
An object built without material.
Description
What would happen if we removed matter from objects? Empty material develops the idea of dematerialisation as a response to the hyper-production and the lack of empathy for the environment of our time and proposes a collection of vases where the main material is emptiness. Its flower-filled interior occupies the space and appropriates the design, creating a unity between the artificial and the natural. The objects will be as changeable as nature is.When there is no matter, there is life.

Please give information about the key objectives of your concept/idea in terms of sustainability and how these would be met
Empty Material is a collection of vases designed with as little material as possible to minimise their impact on the environment. The objects are made from 100% recycled and recyclable aluminium with low impact processes. The high level of design and sophistication make this collection objects to take care of and to last in time, they have no expiry date. Should they break, they would simply be recycled in their entirety. Aluminium is one of the few materials that can achieve this without deteriorating.
Please give information about the key objectives of your concept/idea in terms of aesthetics and quality of experience beyond functionality and how these would be met
When there is no matter, there is life. The vases are open objects that create spaces and go unnoticed in order to give all the prominence to the flowers that they contain and that fill the emptiness without matter. Nature floods the object and the space with its beauty, which, being alive, makes the design something in constant change. Sometimes the flowers will be higher, sometimes lower, sometimes brighter, sometimes darker... The aesthetics will depend on them.
Please give information about the key objectives of your concept/idea in terms of inclusion and how these would be been met
To dematerialise means to remove existing material, and the less material, the less resources are needed in its production, therefore the less money and effort it will cost. Empty Material uses the minimum material necessary to fulfil its function. The price of the collection will not be high. It will be an object of great refinement at an economical price.
Please explain the innovative character of your concept/ idea
Empty material are objects constructed without material. And when there is no material, there is life. It highlights the unparalleled beauty, sensitivity and honesty of nature as opposed to the artificial. The important thing is not the human being, but his ecosystem and his relationship with it. The project makes nature as the main part of the design and minimises the impact of human creation.
Please detail the plans you have for the further development, promotion and/or implementation of your concept/idea, with a particular attention to the initiatives to be taken before May 2022
In order to carry out the project, the production of the project will be necessary, depending on the units required, one process or another will have to be chosen. If you want to make an aluminium prototype, a craftsman can simply carry it out. If you want to make an industrial production with not too many units, which is the main idea, it will have to be done by sand casting. The marketing and commercialisation plan of the product will be executed until the day of launching and distributing the design to shops, museums and galleries.
