Description
Generazione Borgo was born from the willingness of a group of young inhabitants of BorgoReno district to reinvent the public center Anni Verdi.  The project enhances new forms for sociality and gives way to young generations' needs, through free and diversified workshops ranging from breakdancing to participatory journalism. The center is thought to be the first community center of the district able to act as a catalyst for synergies between people, local associations, and public institutions.

II. DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT
Please provide a summary of your concept/ idea
Generazione Borgo proposal was selected by Fondazione per l’Innovazione Urbana within the training pathway School for Collective Action. The public call was designed for the development of social and civic impact projects addressed to mutualistic networks, young professionals, associations, social enterprises operating within the Bologna metropolitan area and was started in October 2020. The proposal was developed by a group of university students involved in several associations already focusing on sociality, arts, city caring within the peripheral district. We aim to regenerate the public youth center of Borgo Panigale by designing intergenerational and inclusive activities aligning goals and interests of both citizens and local organizations operating within these spaces alongside the Municipal Education Team. But most importantly the project objective is to involve our peers in the co-planning of future activities within these spaces to enhance a shared sense of ownership of the neighborhoods’ common goods. CAV public youth center currently hosts a recording room and a skatepark managed by Borgomondo and a cycle workshop managed by BorgoAlice. We have established a dialogue with other local organizations to expand the initiative network including Radio C.A.P., which promotes the storytelling of key issues related to sociality and well-being within the neighborhood, Bologna Skate School and A.P.E. Odg, selected as administrative and educational support for the planning of the foreseen project. Our key objectives are 1) to strengthen cooperative relations between minors of all social backgrounds and nationalities with the neighborhood, Associations and Social-Educational Services; 2) to promote participatory processes and make young people protagonists of the territory in which they live; 3) to create the conditions for new initiatives to be promoted by the inhabitants, structuring in a long-term perspective both social and economic sustainability within th

Borgo Alice Association currently runs a small bicycle repair station at the CAV Borgo. After winning the Municipal call Ravaldone they now work both on purchasing tools and bicycle components and on regenerating disused bicycles.   By participating in Generazione Borgo project their goal is to double the equipment, transforming the place into a reference point for mobility services within the neighborhood. Moreover, the CAV youth center is located along the Ciclovia del Sole, currently under construction. In cooperation with Borgo Alice, we planned the implementation of new activities as the Cyclo-repair workshop. This aims at increasing beneficiaries' awareness regarding critical consumption and the reuse of materials. The foreseen training sessions will enable young people to learn the craft and innovate these services, laying the groundwork for a future source of economic sustainability. Borgomondo ngo, which currently manages the Borgosuono Recording Room, will expand its equipment as well including a Control Room. Training activities will be organized by experts with the same objective.  The intergenerational handover is the key point for the economic and social sustainability of the project; the objective is to make sure that young people learn how to find funding and that the initiatives become permanent actions, in order to make them sustainable in the future. Extra-workshops activities were also foreseen to enable new generations to take part in future calls for tenders, public announcements, and to find the resources to finance their own activities both through future paid workshops and future collaborations with other local associations and institutions. Through these, we plan to enhance young people's engagement in the care and promotion of future activities through panels in which they are taught how to propose activities, how to apply for funding, and how to set up proper management of future projects.

The project aims to develop and deliver different artistic, expressive, and manual activities in order to generate "New Beauty" in the neighborhood.  The key objective is to value different conceptions of beauty, exploring these new perspectives in order to enhance innovative forms of artistic awareness within the community by supporting the dissemination of diverse forms of art  - from music to handicrafts, from body movement to multimedia. To meet this goal several activities are projected.  Some initiatives concern the recovery and regeneration of objects, such as the Cyclo-repair workshop, which focuses on environmental sustainability and the reduction of material consumption. Other activities will focus on movement and the harmony of body shapes, such as skate and dance workshops. Moreover, the audio-video recording workshop will involve different senses by developing a path of research and multimedia production, while the participatory journalism workshop will focus on narratives of the area's beauty and citizens' initiatives. Generazione Borgo project proposes to integrate the artistic workshops with moments of comparison and narration of the origins of the different disciplines. From street culture to sustainability, from art’s sake to professional commitment, it will stimulate the interest of young people in citizen activism by setting up dialogues and participatory workshops on key issues such as: inclusion, sharing, respect, and care for one's own territory, Culture of Beauty and free expression in all its forms and particularities. The support and mentoring by partner organizations will guarantee support in the pursuit of the objectives.
Please give information about the key objectives of your concept/idea in terms of inclusion and how these would be been met
The project focuses on the creation of new relations between the actors of the territory and on strengthening existing ones. In particular, it aims to design synergies between three main stakeholders in the area: local associations, social and educational services (and public administrations), and the district’s inhabitants.  Revitalizing a space for socio-educational services and associations to meet represents an opportunity for growth for the territory. The aim is to map the real interests and needs of the community, starting from the local roots and skills of the associations. The already established good relationship between local NGOs and citizens allows active, concrete, and integrated participation in collective life, through shared paths and initiatives. Thus, Generazione Borgo objective is to enhance a proximity space in which citizens draw resources from the community and become in turn a resource for the community itself. The networks of NGOs will be involved and employed to effectively intercept the youngsters, with the support of the Fondazione Innovazione Urbana and targeted sponsorships on social channels. Moreover, the NGOs involved, thanks to their experience, have developed a remarkable knowledge of citizens' fragilities, of effective methods to promote integration and social inclusion, on how to intervene against gender differences, and on how to create intergenerational networks. The aim is to create a fertile common ground in which the different actors in the neighborhood can feel included, where the basis for real community welfare can be created. Moreover, we aim to enhance the skills of each of the actors involved, in order to continue the path undertaken on the territory in favor of young people who live the educational and life precariousness of the street.
Please explain the innovative character of your concept/ idea
The project wants to create a new concept of the city periphery: inhabitants will not be forced to move to the city center in order to participate in educational, cultural, and artistic activities; those resources will move to Borgo Panigale-Reno district, generating social capital and new opportunities for citizens and the territory itself.  We want to transform the critical issues of young people in the area, such as early school leaving, into opportunities to meet and cooperate with the rest of the citizenship. A series of activities proposed by the young people of the neighborhood will be realized and workshops will be structured and then managed by them. This is an innovative process, as in all its phases we proceeded through co-design between Fondazione Innovazione Urbana of Bologna, the young project promoters, and neighborhood associations. Generazione Borgo will be implemented in a neighborhood with a high rate of social disgregation that often does not benefit from opportunities of this type. Another innovative aspect is the realization of extra-laboratory activities, aimed at the creation of intergenerational and intercultural networks in the neighborhood. In this way we want to ensure continuity and replicability of the project over time, making it a container of ideas that promotes inclusion, integration, and mutual listening among the various components of the Borgo Panigale - Reno neighborhood.
Please detail the plans you have for the further development, promotion and/or implementation of your concept/idea, with a particular attention to the initiatives to be taken before May 2022
The first step of the project (and an element that will continue throughout the entire time span) is the coordination with the Socio-Educational Services (AEING, SEST, Q.re) for the diffusion and promotion of the initiatives and the organization of the activities between NGOs and local institutions. The workshops will be proposed to different groups of young people, half will be addressed to minors selected by the different Socio-Educational Services partners, while the other half will be open to the whole population- with particular attention to the places where the educational-training offer is most lacking. The initiatives will be organized in different cycles from June 2021 until November of 2022. Skate and Breaking labs will be the first to start, in the early 2021 summer, and will last until summer 2022. They will be held by experts with more than 10 years of experience in teaching. Cyclo-repair and the audio-video recording workshops will start in September 2021. These will last until summer 2022. These labs will be held by experts of Borgo Alice and Borgomondo associations, promoting initiatives for more than 10 years. The participatory journalism workshop will take place in 2022, to use the previous workshop experiences as a focus for narrative exercises. These will be run by the young people of Radio CAP. The extra-workshop activity will be implemented between the spring period and December 2022, linking the end of this project with the start of new initiatives. A final event is planned for June 2022 to bring together the various activities and to strengthen the relationships that have been weaved and turn these initiatives into permanent actions. At the end of the project, associations will involve new participants in their networks in order to develop new actions promoted by young people, with a perspective of creating opportunities for socialization, development of mutualism, and promotion of collective welfare.
