II. DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT
Please provide a summary of your concept/ idea
This project highlights a huge disruption in the footwear market - the opportunity for every person and small business to create and produce new and radical shoes.
Entering this market requires a lot of investment and capital, that's why 3D printing opens the doors to progressive and more niche ideas.
"3d_shoe" is a one-piece 3D printed sneaker that adapts to an individual's foot. It's inspired by layers that are the foundation of 3D printing.
The design of "3d_shoe" is based on the shape of the foot. Each line of the foot was either copied or exaggerated and by adapting these shoes to different people, the whole silhouette changes.
Please give information about the key objectives of your concept/idea in terms of sustainability and how these would be met
3D printing technology is in itself sustainable but ensuring that that technology is in every household and is used responsibly is crucial in it's further development. The concept of "3d_shoe" is that it gets molded to different feet (biological and prosthetic) for optimal material distribution and efficiency. Every feet is truly different, therefore it's necessary to enter the market with this product and offer people an affordable, accessible, aesthetic and of-time design. People love customization, people love trends, people love products that tell them who they are. That's why I created the 3d_shoe.
In a more practical sense, this 3d printed shoe is made out of recyclable TPU plastic. Because it's a one-piece sneaker, recycling is super easy and has a lower environmental footprint.
Please give information about the key objectives of your concept/idea in terms of aesthetics and quality of experience beyond functionality and how these would be met
The current cultural climate is very eclectic and fast moving. Trends are rapid and everything is getting more and more niche. Therefore product design should fit in this space to truly be of value to the cultural development and innovation.
This might be a controversial opinion: I believe that the vast majority of designers will be replaced by AI and the designers left will be the ones who are above the algorithm, above the purely theoretical product creation, and the ones who really understand their culture.
Please give information about the key objectives of your concept/idea in terms of inclusion and how these would be been met
3d_shoe is all inclusive - every feet is different so every "3d_shoe" will have to be different. By adapting the shape of the sneaker to various feet the whole shoe changes. The topology changes - so does the silhouette.
Please explain the innovative character of your concept/ idea
There has been many attempts at solving this very problem (footwear market having a high barrier of entry), but none of them were right for the time or had a wide appeal. 3d_shoe is perfect in this pandemic/post-pandemic world. it's right for the culture, it's right for the time and it's right for the environment.
Please detail the plans you have for the further development, promotion and/or implementation of your concept/idea, with a particular attention to the initiatives to be taken before May 2022
3d_shoe is not only a shoe, it's a system of connected individuals creating for themselves and others. In the most basic sense, it's a platform where people can choose a shoe design (created by us or by other members of the platform) they like, modify it (if they want), and print it. The algorithm knows the users foot so it automatically adapts the shoe to perfectly fit them.
If the product launch is successful and people are interested, a second release of the shoe could feature a shoe made out of mycelium or other organic grown substance. That would be even more sustainable.
